Medicaid Personal Support Services (PSS) provide assistance with activities of daily living like bathing, dressing, meal preparation, and mobility for individuals who need extra support to live independently. These services allow family members or other caregivers to help with non-medical needs while maintaining flexibility in scheduling and employment. PSS aims to improve quality of life and ensure that individuals receive essential support at home or in their community.
An alternative to PSS is Structured Family Caregiving (SFC), which provides family members who live with their loved ones the training and support needed for a more hands-on caregiving role. Unlike PSS, SFC offers a tax-free stipend, no set schedule (as long as the tasks are completed in 24 hours), and no electronic visit verification (EVV). Under SFC, you are your own boss (not an agency employee), and your family member gets the best possible care.
